Teamsters Remember Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
Teamster locals joined the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition and Workers United to commemorate the 107th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, which killed 146 immigrant garment workers in New York City. The fire sparked movements for union rights, workplace safety, and immigrant justice. Locals 810, 210, and 917 all participated.
Nelson Iraheta, a member of Teamsters Local 917, spoke about his experience as an immigrant worker, and the Teamsters’ decision to become a sanctuary union to protect today’s immigrant union members.
