Donate to our Puerto Rico Hurricane Emergency Fund
As the island of Puerto Rico recovers from Hurricane Maria, Joint Council 16 will be there to support our brothers and sisters Teamsters there. Maria was the worst hurricane in a century for Puerto Rico. Many people have died. Power was knocked out for the entire island and it will take months to restore. Many of our members have undoubtedly lost their homes and will need support as they rebuild.
You may not be aware, but 3,000 IBT members are part of Puerto Rico’s Teamsters Local 901. We support our brother and sister Teamsters in their time of need. Joint Council 16 has established an emergency fund in order to purchase supplies to support Teamsters Local 901 members.
We are asking each of you to consider making a contribution to this emergency fund. Checks should be made payable to “Joint Council 16” and should indicate that they are for the Puerto Rico hurricane emergency fund in the memo section on the check.
Please note that these contributions constitute “gifts” for tax purposes are not tax deductible. You may wish to consult with your personal accountant if you have any additional questions.
Finally, checks can be sent or dropped off at the local union, or sent directly to Joint Council 16, at 265 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10011.
Thank you for your anticipated assistance.
