Labor Day message from George Miranda
Dear Joint Council 16 local unions,
This Labor Day comes at a moment in our country when the importance and power of workers is clear. The COVID pandemic has revealed to all that working class people are the essential workers who run our country. The pandemic has also shown the vulnerable conditions under which so many Americans work.
Today, just as we are celebrating the important work that our members do and the power of our union, we are also mourning the many workers we have lost to COVID-19. Many of these deaths could have been prevented if our government and corporations had put the needs of workers first, and there is still work to do to protect workers from a second wave.
On this Labor Day and in the year ahead, we will mourn the dead and fight for the living. I am sorry that we will not be able to see each other at the annual parade, but know that I am thinking of you and our members. I hope that you and your families have a wonderful Labor Day together.
Please join Joint Council 16 and the Central Labor Council in celebrating the labor movement and working people this week on social media, and send us photos from any events or gatherings you hold.
George Miranda is President of Teamsters Joint Council 16
