New York Teamsters Stand Behind Long Island Bus Drivers and Local 1205
Teamsters Joint Council 16 President George Miranda had the following statement in support of Teamsters Local 1205 and its members at Baumann Bus Company, who are fighting for a fair contract.
“The 120,000 Teamsters across downstate New York stand with our brothers and sisters of Local 1205 in their campaign for justice at Baumann Bus Company.
“Baumann bus employees want what all workers want: a fair wage and safety on the job. These are the men and women who care for our children from home to school and back again. We trust them with our families and they deserve wages and benefits that allow them to take care of their own families.
“Baumann has responded to these workers with callous and deceptive public relations, but we are not buying it.
“The company recently released a letter filled with misrepresentations and went so far as to imply that this Joint Council does not agree with Local 1205’s advocacy on behalf of its members. The fact is that Local 1205 and its members only want the employment standards that union workers across the region expect, and they have responded to Baumann’s intransigence as any other honorable union would and are acting fully within their legal rights.
“With labor, Long Island families, and the truth on their side, we believe the bus employees represented by Local 1205 will win their fight for justice at Baumann.”
