New York’s Tom O’Donnell Named Teamsters Motion Picture Division Director
Local 817 Leader Committed To Strong Representation, Growth In New Media
International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa today announced the appointment of Tom O’Donnell, President of Teamsters Local 817 in Great Neck, New York, as Director of the Teamsters Motion Picture and Theatrical Trades Division.
“Tom has been a strong partner in growing the Motion Picture Division from coast to coast,” said Hoffa. “No one understands the industry better than Tom. He’s a tremendous leader who will continue to help Teamster locals navigate the ever changing industry landscape.”
O’Donnell began his career as a driver on the motion picture production of “Stepford Wives” in 1974. He was first elected Secretary-Treasurer of Local 817 in 1990 and was elected President in 2012.
“I am honored by this appointment and thank General President Hoffa for his confidence,” said O’Donnell. “The explosion of work in television and particularly new media offers exciting challenges in organizing. Through assistance and education to local unions and by forging partnerships with other unions and guilds, I believe we can grow this Division to heights it has not yet seen.”
