Teamsters Announce Congressional, State Endorsements Ahead of Democratic Primary
Teamsters Joint Council 16 announced Congressional, State Senate, and State Assembly endorsements today in Democratic primaries to be held on June 23, 2020. Joint Council 16 represents 120,000 workers in New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley.
“At a time when working people are under threat from a historic recession, a pandemic, and police brutality, these are the elected officials we need fighting on our behalf in Washington and Albany,” said George Miranda, President of Teamsters Joint Council 16. “Now and through election day, our union will be on the phones and turning out our members to vote so we can elect these leaders to office.”
Among the endorsees are three Democrats running for open Assembly seats. Richard David in the 31st Assembly District, Kenneth Burgos in the 85th Assembly District, and Amanda Septimo in the 84th Assembly District. JC 16 endorsed Septimo in 2018 as well.
The Teamsters represent workers in a wide range of industries, including freight, delivery, airlines, warehousing, manufacturing, construction, parking, public sector, and sanitation.
