Teamsters back John Liu for NY Senate
Democrat John Liu has harnessed the support of the Teamsters in his bid to defeat incumbent state Sen. Tony Avella in the September primary.
“John Liu is a true friend of New York workers who has time and again put himself on the line to be their voice in government,” said Teamsters Joint Council 16 President George Miranda in a campaign statement Monday.
“Whether it’s working to build and preserve affordable housing, create and protect good jobs, or provide quality education to all children, John Liu has never backed down from fighting for the issues that truly matter to our members,” Miranda said.
“The Teamsters will be there for John, so that John can be there for all of us in the Senate.”
Joint Council 16 has 120,000 workers in the metro area.
That makes it by far Liu’s biggest union endorsement to date.
