Teamsters Speak Out on Arrests of Essential Workers
George Miranda, President of Teamsters Joint Council 16, had the following statement on recent arrests of essential workers in New York City.
“The police enforcement of New York City’s curfew in recent days has led to unacceptable arrests of New Yorkers exercising their civil liberties and speaking out for justice. I am particularly concerned about the arrests last night of essential workers, either in the performance of their jobs or on their commute. How quickly things have changed since these workers were called heroes. The mayor has created a situation where people of color are subject to arrest for committing no crime other than walking or working. These arrests must end.”
