Teamster Member Writes about the “Tenacity of Local 831”
The strength of the Teamsters comes from Teamster members. The union is strongest when members are engaged and educated about their union. Teamsters Local 831 member Eric Stephens showed this in a recent letter addressed to Teamsters Local 831 President Harry Nespoli.
“I have been with the Department of Sanitation and a proud member of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association Local 831 for over 32 years,” Stephen wrote. “During that time, I have served with distinction… However, what I have accomplished would not have been possible without the fierce representation and tenacity of Local 831 and its executive board.”
“They have battled Mayors, the City Council and the NYC Department of Sanitation to expand the workforce, get improved work facilities, get more and better equipment, eliminate outside contractors, enhanced the disability benefit plan and, of course, higher wages for its members,” he continued.
Local 831 President Harry Nespoli said, “It is a pleasure to hear from members who remind us why we do this work. Members must understand what unions do and why it is important to give their time and support to the union. We are proud to count Eric as a member and encourage all Teamsters to get involved in their union.”
